Aly Monroe is a British writer who grew up in the outer suburbs of London. She spent much of her life living in Spain working as a teacher and translator. She has three children and two grandchildren who live in Spain.
Her books feature the character Peter Cotton who, like her is a part-child of the Empire (he spent his young childhood in South America). The books give a very realistic portrayal of life following WWII and entering the cold-war.
