Derek B. Miller was born and grew up in Boston Massachusetts, although since the mid 1990s he has lived in Israel, England, Hungary, Switzerland and Norway. He is an international affairs specialist who is a director of the Policy Lab and a senior fellow of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research. Somehow he found the time to write one of the best novels that I’ve ever read.
Miller is Jewish and his family migrated from Europe to the USA in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He is married to a Norwegian – Camilla Waszink and they live in Oslo with their two children.
Finding out about Miller has reminded me just how much I loved his novel – ‘Norwegian by Night’ and how much I am hoping that he will publish another book in the not too distant future. He struggled to find a publisher for his book in America, so it was originally published in Norway before being taken up in Europe and then Australia. I expect he will find his next book easier to publish.
