Mo Hayder was born in England in 1962.
She left school at the age of 15 and had a number of jobs before becoming a writer: barmaid, security-guard, film-maker, hostess in a Tokyo nightclub, educational administrator, teacher of English as a foreign language. She went on to gain a MA in film from the American University in Washington DC and a MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University.
Her books (there are now 8 with another soon to be published) reflect her obsession with morbidity and at times are very gruesome.
She published her first novel – ‘Birdman’ in 2000. This novel introduced Detective Inspector Jack Caffery. There are now 5 novels in the Jack Caffery series including the Edgar winning ‘Gone’.
Mo Hayder lives in Bath in England with her partner Bob Randall – a retired policeman, and her daughter Lotte-Genevieve.
